Peat, Place and People: Community Conversations on Heritage, Landscape and Stewardship

📅 Thursday 1st October 2026 | 2 – 4pm | Pairc Trust Resource Centre, Lewis
Join us for a day exploring the connections between peat, place and people in Pairc.
Peatlands have shaped life in the Outer Hebrides for generations, providing fuel, supporting livelihoods and forming an important part of our cultural heritage. Today, they remain a defining feature of our landscape and continue to influence how we connect with the land around us.
As part of Outer Hebrides Climate Week, this event will bring together local residents, community organisations and peatland specialists to explore the significance of peatlands through shared learning, conversation and storytelling.
The event will feature engaging talks, group discussion and a community storytelling workshop, exploring the role of peatlands in island life, traditional knowledge and practices, and what stewardship of our landscapes means for future generations.
Speakers include:
- Kirsty Leese, Outer Hebrides Climate Hub
- Ben Inglis-Grant, PeatlandACTION
- Ada Shaw, University of Glasgow
Whether you have a connection to peat cutting, an interest in local history and culture, or simply want to learn more about the landscapes that surround us, everyone is welcome.
🎟️ Tickets are free but limited – book your space now.
