The Made in Pairc project officially launched this month, marking a major milestone for boosting the local economy, promoting sustainability, and strengthening community collaboration in Pairc. Managed by the Pairc Trust, this innovative initiative aims to support local food systems and create market opportunities for local products and services, all while enhancing self-reliance and reducing carbon emissions.
During the successful launch event, more than 45 attendees—over 10% of the district’s population—came together to learn about the project’s vision and participate in community-driven activities. The project focuses on:
- Increasing local incomes through new market opportunities
- Providing fresh, healthy, and affordable food to residents
- Reducing carbon emissions by minimizing food miles
- Strengthening local organisations and fostering community cooperation
The launch was made possible by £1,000 in funding from the Outer Hebrides Climate Hub Ideas into Action Fund. The event featured locally prepared food, insightful presentations, and opportunities for volunteers to help shape the initiative’s future.
A community survey is currently underway, allowing Pairc residents to share their opinions and suggestions. This feedback will play a crucial role in guiding the project’s development and ensuring broad community involvement.

The Made in Pairc team is now analysing survey results to guide local producers, makers, and service providers in their next steps. Volunteers from the launch event will soon form a leadership group to drive the project forward.
In the long term, Made in Pairc aims to establish self-sustaining local groups and explore opportunities for investment in processing facilities and retail outlets, further enhancing the community’s economic resilience.
