Island residents, businesses, community groups, and organisations across the Outer Hebrides are being invited to take part in a week-long programme of free events focused on climate action, sustainability and community resilience.
Outer Hebrides Climate Week will take place from Monday 28 September to Monday 5 October 2026, bringing together local expertise, community knowledge and practical action from across the island chain.
Organised by the Outer Hebrides Climate Hub in partnership with a range of environmental, public sector, and community organisations, the week will feature a diverse programme of events designed to inspire collaboration and drive action on various challenges facing the islands.
A Week-long Programme of Events
The programme will include:
- Sustainable Business Summits in Uist and Lewis
- Climate Resilience and Adaptation Conferences in Lewis and Barra
- Conservation conferences in Lewis and Uist
- Online webinars and digital events
- Community workshops, exhibitions and networking opportunities
- Additional partner-led events taking place throughout the week
All events will be free to attend, ensuring as many people as possible can participate in discussions about the future of our islands and the opportunities that climate action can bring.
Shaping the Future of Climate Action in the Outer Hebrides
A key aim of Climate Week is to give island communities a voice in shaping future strategies.
Many of the events will include interactive workshops and discussion sessions, providing opportunities for participants to share their experiences, ideas and concerns around issues such as sustainability, conservation, resilience and environmental stewardship.
The feedback gathered throughout the week will help inform future climate action across the region, and support the development of practical, island-focused solutions that reflect the needs of our communities.

Celebrating Local Success
Climate Week will also shine a spotlight on the inspiring work already taking place across the Outer Hebrides.
The Sustainable Business Summits will provide practical guidance, case studies and networking opportunities for organisations looking to improve their environmental performance, while the resilience conferences will explore how communities can prepare for changing environmental conditions and strengthen their ability to adapt for future generations.
Representatives from the Outer Hebrides Climate Hub, the Community Planning Partnership’s Climate Change Working Group, Islands Centre for Net Zero, Species on the Edge, and a range of other organisations and groups will contribute presentations, workshops and discussions throughout the week.

Working Together for the Future
Outer Hebrides Climate Week has been made possible through funding from the Community Led Local Development (CLLD) Fund, the Scottish Government, and Climate Hebrides CIC. Climate adaptation and resilience events are funded through the Scottish Government Climate Ready Regions programme, supported by the Community Planning Partnership’s Climate Change Working Group.Â
