Communities across the Western Isles will come together this autumn for the second Outer Hebrides Climate Conference (OH-COP2) – a landmark event tackling the region’s unique climate challenges and inspiring practical solutions for a sustainable future.
Taking place on Tuesday 30th September at An Lanntair, Stornoway, the conference is organised by Climate Hebrides and the Outer Hebrides Climate Hub. It will unite community leaders, local organisations, and members of the public to explore practical strategies for climate resilience, adaptation, and sustainable living in the islands.
What to Expect at OH-COP2
Attendees can look forward to a full day of learning, collaboration, and action-focused discussion, including:
- Keynote talks from leading voices in climate action
- Interactive sessions on resilience, mitigation, adaptation, and conservation
- Q&A panels with local businesses on sustainable practices in the islands
Speakers include representatives from the Scottish Government, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Eilean Siar Energy, Carbon Neutral Islands (Barra and Vatersay), University of the Highlands and Islands, NatureScot, Urras Oighreachd Ghabhsainn, and several innovative local businesses and enterprises.
A Platform for Local Climate Leadership
Brian Whitington, Chief Executive of Climate Hebrides, said:

The event is funded by the Scottish Government and sponsored by SSEN Transmission, who will also present their sustainability initiatives.

Building on Last Year’s Success
Last year’s inaugural Outer Hebrides Climate Conference welcomed over 100 participants and created a strong platform for new projects, collaborations, and sustainability targets across the islands.
This year, due to increased demand, over 200 participants are expected. The expanded programme reflects the growing importance of community-driven climate action in the islands.
