Tickets are now available for OH-COP1, the largest climate event in the Outer Hebrides, set to take place on Tuesday, 24th September at An Lanntair, Stornoway. This monumental event, organised by Climate Hebrides and the Outer Hebrides Climate Hub, will focus on the unique climate challenges faced by island communities and inspire real action.

What is OH-COP1?
OH-COP1 is designed to bring together key stakeholders from across the islands, with a mission to secure tangible commitments to climate action. The event will not only feature thought-provoking presentations but also engage participants in interactive discussions, paving the way for meaningful projects and initiatives. The conference will also be livestreamed, ensuring that islanders across the Outer Hebrides can tune in.
Presentations
The day is packed with engaging sessions, inspiring speakers, and opportunities for networking. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the key moments:
- Young Voices: featuring speakers from Youth Local Action Group (Youth LAG), Young Islanders Network (YIN), the Scottish Youth Parliament, and students and lecturers from University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI NWH). This session will focus on young people’s perspectives, challenges and hopes for climate resilience in the Outer Hebrides.
- James Pope from the Met Office, who will discuss the impacts of climate change on island communities.
- Christopher Smail & Sarah Longbottom presenting highlights from Our Climate Story.
- Brian Whitington will outline next steps for climate action based on insights from the Our Climate Story project.
- David MacLennan of NatureScot, focusing on nature-based solutions.
- Julia Higginbottom of NHS Western Isles, discussing the impacts of climate change on the NHS.
- Peter O’Donnell from Hebridean Housing Partnership, on decarbonising heat and housing.
- Ben Inglis-Grant presenting the idea of restoring all peatland in the islands.
- Matthew Logan from ICNZ, discussing the path to Net Zero for the Outer Hebrides.
Lunch, refreshments and a drinks reception will also be provided on the day for attendees. The day will close with a panel discussion to develop and take forward new climate projects, followed by a networking session in the evening.
